COLOURFUL GREY SPLIT!
- weīre not here to understand, but to leave our footsteps in the sand -
After more than ten years of existence and estimated 200 shows Colourful Grey will split up at the end of the year. The decision might seem surprising but itīs a well considered one.
Our wonderful bass player Dimi "Mr. Jimmy" Conidas informed us with a heavy heart that he has to leave the band due to lack of time since he didnīt want to do things by halves. You have to know that Dimi owns a studio plus he sings and plays guitar in another band apart from his job as a hairdresser (now you know why everybody in the band looks so handsome). His attempt to balance all of this failed in the long run so he decided to leave Colourful Grey. It happened abruptly but on the basis of his situation it was foreseeable.
Now we find ourselves in the same situation as in the beginning of 2006: We donīt have a bassist anymore and thereīs no (permanent) replacement in sight. But this time there seems to be bigger gap since a very good bass player and even better background singer has left the band. The bar has been raised for the possible successor and no-one in the band is willing to cut back.
This is one of the reasons why we donīt want to look for a new member. The troublesome searching, the endless incorporation, the challenge to integrate a new character it all seems to be an obstacle.
This wasnīt a decision by unison and not every member of the band supports it thoroughly but I have to say that particularly I (Philipp) donīt have the strength to move three steps back in order to (maybe!) move four steps ahead sometime in the future.
Itīs time for a change and 2007 is the year for it! We wonīt be inactive bystanders while the music scene changes without us. We will be right in the middle with new ideas, new projects and new faces.
And we wonīt leave without celebrating the party of the year! We are planning to play our last Colourful Grey show at the Sinkkasten in Frankfurt in late September (just before our reunion in 2050) with all our friends, new, old and ancient songs, a farewell cd including our last recordings and the final big merch sell out.
Get yourselves ready, dress up, tell all your friends and be there or youīll miss the bash which could have been a great story for your grandchildren.
Love,
