Hailing
from Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, and having spent the past three
years experimenting with musical direction, MIDASUNO believe they
have honed their aural and visual attack for public display. With
teenhood barely behind them, MIDASUNO's brand of energy-infused
live performance should be seen to be believed. Sonically, the
band have so far managed to dodge any attempts of being successfully
pigeon-holed - "emo-core", "post-hardcore"
and "Fugazi-esque" have all been used to describe MIDASUNO'S
passionate yet aggressive sound.
The
influences behind the MIDASUNO sound stem from underground lo-fi
to all-out-attack metal. Somewhere in the middle lies MIDASUNO,
though likeness' have been made to acts such as At The Drive-In,
Muse, System Of A Down and Fugazi, yet MIDASUNO'S x-factor helps
keep their distance from being branded a 'safe' band. To the point
where MIDASUNO have even been awarded their own 'hard rock' genre
on contactmusic.com
During
thier first 12 months, MIDASUNO had managed to gain an exceptional
live reputatation which their press reviews acknowledge. The demo,
"The Art Of Fear" was recorded over the 2000 Xmas period
and provided much of the drive for MIDASUNO'S 2001 campaign. Produced
by LostProphets' Stuart Richardson, it featured "The Art
Of Fear" as the lead track, backed with "Hypocrite"
and crowd favourite "Tear". As well as being the demo
that booked thier place amongst the other 6 Welsh bands chosen
to perform at the 2001 IN THE CITY LIVE UNSIGNED event held in
Manchester (SEE PRESS), it recieved airplay on the BBC Radio Wales's
Adam Walton show on numourous occasions.
As
well as successful headline shows in Cardiff, (Barfly, Sam's Bar)
and a capacity crowd at home-town venue "The Rooms",
MIDASUNO played with LostProphets (at a sold-out Blackwood Miner's
Institute in April) , Janus Stark and The Relatives to name but
a few. The band's first gig outside Wales caused shockwaves and
proved that they could pull it off in front of the media big-boys.
MIDASUNO'S opening slot at the Granby in Manchester's IN THE CITY
event gave many a slice of what to expect in 2002. Industry insider
magazine "The Tip Sheet" said "An unbelieveably
energetic rock band who had mastered the art of of jumping around
on a small stage without hitting each other"
Recently,
the band has recorded sessions for BBC Radio Wales and the RADIO
ONE EVENING SESSION IN WALES, dominated various MP3 charts, were
chosen to appear alongside Mclusky on the "ONCE AROUND THE
BLOC" tour and continued writing new material. Prior to the
release of their debut double-a side single "The Art Of Fear
* Lacerate/Break" (the first release for fledgling label
CASCADE), MIDASUNO have performed at the Coal Exchange, Cardiff
as support to The Wildhearts, and recently featured on the Halo/Serafin
tour as support at the Cardiff Barfly. Rock Sound also described
MIDASUNO as "Could be huge" and "....the next LostProphets".
And
now to pastures new. 2003 sees the band sign their deal with Lockjaw
Records and start touring nationally prior to the release of their
debut mini album in the autumn.
