Formed in Winchester in the school holiday's of 2002, Second Monday
have a sound so complex yet natural, that you would believe they
have been playing music together for years! No mean feat you might
think? Until you realise that the band has only just achieved
an average age of 16!!! For a band so young their songs show a
maturity and originality that belies their years.
In
the months following their formation the band entered the studio
to record their first demo, which helped secure them their first
gig supporting 'Fletcher' at the nationally renowned Joiners in
Southampton. Taking to the stage for the first time the guys knew
what they wanted to do! Play live and they haven't looked back
since! They spent the next half a year playing as much as possible
in and around their local area, supporting various bands until
in early 2003 they got the chance to support future label mates
'Tribute to Nothing'. The guys in 'TTN' were so blown away by
the 4 tiny guys from Winchester playing with such passion they
automatically took them under their wings!
They
soon set to work recording their second demo at 'Outhouse Studios'
in nearby Reading. They felt confident enough with the quality
of the recording and the material they'd written to start sending
it to record labels. One of those labels was TTN's own, Lockjaw
Records who immediately offered the guys a deal! The band then
entered 'The Waiting Rooms' studio in Christmas 2003 to create
6 brand new masterpieces with acclaimed producer Ray Tibbetts.
The
following February 'Second Monday' embarked on their first UK
tour with label mates 'Aura Sun' and in early March they played
their first London show at the Academy in Islington. Their performance
at this gig received 4/5 in Big Cheese Magazine and 8.5/10 on
online site Punktastic. Another UK tour followed in Easter and
more recently they got the chance to support US punk legends 'Tsunami
Bomb' and English punks 'The Not Katies'.
With
offers of tours and outstanding reviews flooding in by the minute
the future looks set to belong to 'Second Monday'!
