Back In Blighty

After a week relaxing in the sunshine I'm back to the lovely drizzle of England. Good news though, new bands, new tours... read on!

Word Of The Day Impedimenta n. Baggage or other things that retard one's progress

So I’ve just spent an awesome week in the west of Turkey with my girlfriend, hanging out, swimming, exploring, eating awesome food etc. Had an awesome time and just about managed to evade the collapse of Gold Trail (and I mean only just the flight after us never left due to the company going up tits). So it’s a little hard to adjust to being back at work, the early mornings/late nights combo and the constant threats from the Met Office that we are going to drown in wave apon wave of flooding.
However there is some good stuff going on. How pleasant. Check out this cominng month's rocksound magazine for some cool Lockjaw stuff including some high praise for Outsmarted and thisfamiliarsmile. Speaking of the chaps from Scotland, check out the interview with thisfamiliarsmile on Lights Go Out

Them punk/electro fols, Everything On Red are once again embarking on their 'Screw Everything tour' take your eyes and hone in on that.

Right so check this out Irish hardcore types Only Fumes & Corpses have joined the label. We will be releasing their full-length Who Really Cares, What Really Lasts on September 13th on CD and download.

Formed in 2005 out of Galway Ireland, they are a 5 piece metal influenced hardcore band – words which tend to lead people rolling their eyes but this is the real thing. Heartfelt, heavy and without the veil of bullshit and auto-tune vocal choruses the more ‘metal’ side of the genre tends to spawn.

Say hello to Donots
New album out in the UK on Lockjaw Records in September
Word Of The Day: Teraphim - idols or images reverenced by ancient Hebrews

So today we have a new website. It’s like 78.6% done so maybe not quite the hub of excellence it will be. What is though is the rather terrific arrival of Punk Rock behemoths Donots to Lockjaw Records.  Hailing from Germany Donots have been going strong some 15 years and have scored considerable success. 8 albums –including 3 top twenty records in Germany, over 1000 shows and 15 years later the Donots have lost none of their charm. Their latest album The Long Way Home will be available as a deluxe edition featuring bonus tracks in the UK in September 2010.

Even if you don’t recognize the name straight away it’s more than likely you’ve come across these guys at some point. As well as being no strangers to TV and radio the band have also appeared on the soundtracks on various video games including Need For Speed and Burnout 3.

The guys will be hitting up UK shores come autumn so keep your eyes open for that. For the time being check out the video for ‘Calling’ in Featured videos for a taste of Donots.

Check out the bands website and myspace, more details soon!

I'm off on holiday now so....byeee x

New Stuff, new site...news news news

Word Of The Day: tantivy  A full Gallop, Swift

So after fiddling about late into the night for several weeks, it’s all come together. The new site is more simple, sexier and shows off our lovely bands, designs, stupid blogs and whatever other piddle and crap I can pass as being worthy of your attention. So its not quite done, there’s no art up yet and some of the English is perhaps a little suspect but still you get the idea.

The most major change is that Mother Should Know Records will effectively cease to exist and all the bands will be brought under the Lockjaw umbrella.

So there is a new style to whole thing, including the new logo which will hopefully will appear splashed around the place. There is this; the new website which has really killed me this week is nearly done. It's missing some elements and the top menu could do with some care and attention but we are nearly there. Some of the shop needs cleaning up but is working perfectly, and the music player and artwork all needs adding....

4.27 am Thursday morning. 60% done. t-minus 2 hours and 33 minutes until my morning alarm

In actually news, the Donnie Brasco/As We Sink! has come ac cross some issues in pressing. I'm pretty miffed about it but there's nothing I can do now and on the plus side they will arrive in time for the release show on Monday. Anyway  I'm on hols from today but as soon as I am back on English soil, I'll get some photos up, tell you all about and let you know how you can get hold of it!

Anywho, keep checking the site, this blog will continue to update you with news/word of the day/random gibberish.

I'd just like to say thank you to everyone for supporting independent music. It's hard work, but worth it. If you feel you can help spread the word in anyway we can hook you up with some free stuff for your troubles. Check out the about us page for more details.
