“The moral of this tale: if you set yourself up to fail, sparkle fades to grayscale”
In the second chapter of this anthology, DARKO gets to grip with the frustrations of modern life that counter the pragmatic optimism of Sparkle.
“From this chrysalis revitalised, won’t take it as it comes, damage is done, yes but that was just, Chapter One”– Tom West – Quite, Sparkle
Portraying a new level of passion and aggression, Darko has unleashed more metal & hardcore influences than ever before, whilst still sounding unmistakably like the band fans have grown to love.
It’s not only the music that takes you forward on the journey with DARKO, Greyscale features more beautiful watercolour album art from Helena Smyth (@Alpineayita). Continuing the theme of the cycle of the Atlas moth, this piece sees a Cactus moth caterpillar feeding on decaying fruit before chrysalising.
DARKO are offering collectors and fans a Limited Edition collector’s set, with a premium heavy-weight collectors sleeve to house all 3 chapters of the anthology and an annotated lyric book with art and photos. Each sleeve will be hand-numbered and have a personal message to each fan.

Darko blast Toxic Masculinity in “What I Cannot Be”
Stuck on hold? Darko has your back with “Aggro”.
UK punks Darko unveil empassioned new single and video, “What I Cannot Be,” today, marrying their signature blistering speed with the controlled frenzy of The Dillinger Escape Plan or Converge.
“Melodic skate punk will always be in the DNA of Darko, but sometimes it just isn’t angry enough for the subject matter”, frontman Tom West said of the striking departure from the band’s established sound.
“What I Cannot Be” kicks off the upcoming 5 track “Greyscale“. Producer Will Duff of Goliath Studios returns to the desk for the nihilistic second chapter of a trilogy preceeded by 2022’s genre-bending “Sparkle“.
Across the pummeling two-minute new single, West savagely condemns “neanderthal hardmen” and traditional expectations of masculinity.
“Having focused on how the patriarchy principally harms women and marginalised genders in Sparkle‘s opener “The Ladder”, this time around I needed to vent about the significant toll it also takes on men and boys”, explains West.
“Being pushed into boxes based on redundant stereotypes hurts everyone.”
DARKO’s new single Aggro is a blistering audio assault, venting the frustrations and anguish of working life, and uncontrollable external factors stifling progress.
The lyrics, penned by bassist Karl Sursham, will resonate with anyone stuck on a long call, waiting for a straightforward answer from a company but being hopelessly bounced around departments.
“Big companies often think of you as a number and not a human. Management cover their tracks by lying and blaming the staff below them rather than listening and learning about what they can do better, unaware of the damage it causes again and again”.
Crushing guttural screams seamlessly flow into anthemic singalongs, with the frothing anger of Converge but irresistible hooks of The Offspring.
