Seven tracks on vinyl from Dominican-born, Chicago-based hardcore outfit La Armada, two years in the making. Metallic hardcore fury with Caribbean rhythms woven through it, serious political weight and something genuinely personal at its core.
La Armada have spent over two decades building something that does not compromise and does not stand still. Ofensas is the record that shows exactly where that road has taken them. Seven tracks of metallic hardcore rooted in the band’s Dominican origins and shaped by fifteen-plus years in the Chicago scene, with Caribbean rhythms woven into the DNA of the songs rather than bolted on as an afterthought. Fast, purposeful and heavy, with a depth that rewards repeated listens.
The record turns its lens as much inward as outward. La Armada are asking how modern society conditions people to work against themselves and each other, and they track that question across seven focused, ferocious tracks that move from controlled political rage (The track 500 Años takes on the global refugee crisis without flinching) to something more personal and reflective. Working alongside Caribbean percussionists and composers, the band have pushed into new sonic territory including nu metal grooves and experimental arrangements, without losing the forward momentum that put them on stages with Sick of It All, Propagandhi and Strung Out.
This is on vinyl three months before it goes anywhere near a streaming platform. La Armada are an independent band who have always written their own rules and this release is no different. Buy it, play it loud and pass it on.
