Lockjaw Team Update: January
The most rewarding thing about this thriving music scene that we’re a part of is meeting people who share our enthusiasm for all things live and loud. So that you can come and grab us for a chat, we thought we ought to tell you where we are!
We’ll be bringing you a monthly update from the Lockjaw Team with our recommendations, tribulations and gig schedules.

January started of really well with a quick visit to London. I must admit I’ve never visited London before, but we’ll definitely be back. Give it up for London eateries! To hell with mint mushy peas!
I’m off on a weekend to Marseille at the end of the month - going to watch the Rally of Monte Carlo and drink beers.
Musically nothing much, preparing for our next show in Manchester (Shout Louder Fest on February 2nd) and doing some stuff for a pleasant stroll around the mainland later this year.

I started January off with a bang visiting the Swedes - Rebuke and friends - in Gothenburg. We brought in the year watching a stoner doom band to start the year... at least I think I remember a band playing…
On January 12th I was treated too a long overdue singalong with The Wonder Beers celebrating beers in dry January at the Fighting Cocks, supported by the always epic Spoilers and Dealing with Damage. All great vibes.
Airstream Futures are touring this month with Mean Caesar so I’ll probably try get to one of those shows. On January 26th I'll be watching Wild Tales supporting The Yacht Club at the Sebright Arms.
Then we will be into February and I’ll join the crew at Shout Louder Fest in Manchester.

Lesley (London)
Happy new year, my lovelies! There’s been some great new music out there from lots of bands already and I can’t wait for gig announcements that are coming up later in the year.
The Wonder Beers visited Kingston recently to wage war on ‘Dry January’ and they succeeded! I had a bit of a boogie watching Dragster and Blue Carpet Band at 100 Club, too. Blue Carpet Band are great, and I’m excited to play with Dragster next month in Midwich Cuckoos. I may head down to the London leg of The Persistence Tour later this month. Who’s going?
I also had the pleasure to hang with our ‘get-shit-done’ man, Cedric, and found out that he hates mushy peas. This could be as divisive as pineapple on pizza (which is a legendary food combination).

January’s traditionally a quiet month as the world resets and starts afresh. I normally abhor New Year’s resolutions but I’m up for it this year, setting myself some personal challenges and intentions for 2019. Mainly, I’m hoping to write more, relax more and be more physically active.
I’m short of gigs this month (apart from Such Gold, Ducking Punches, Koji and Triple Sundae in Manchester on the 18th), however I’m kicking off February with a major bang! I’m hosting the first ever Shout Louder Fest at Gullivers in Manchester, featuring (deep breath!) Faintest Idea, The Human Project, Fair Do’s, Aerial Salad, The Affect Heuristic, Goodbye Blue Monday, The Burnt Tapes, Follow Your Dreams and Nosebleed.
Partly it’s a showcase of all the best bands I’ve discovered since working on Shout Louder, however, perhaps more importantly, it’s also my 30th birthday party. I’m shocked and humbled that it’s sold out over a month in advance, and I’m excited to see some friends travelling from around Europe for the event. To accompany the event, we’re also doing an exclusive run of Shout Louder t-shirts with an awesome ‘meowsh pit’ design.

- I’ve been listening to a heap of female rappers lately because I need people to tell me my lady garden’s worth a million dollars:
- I’ve also been rinsing my own SHRED LOUDER playlist as a running soundtrack, because you’re literally getting Adrenalized:
Joelle (Antwerp)
I've kicked off January with a series of hangovers.
Starting with New Year’s and celebrating my 29th birthday on the 3rd, I hit a new low: having to walk home due to too many Chouffe Cherry’s and being incapable of cycling. That's a first for me. #responsibleadult
Not only did we publish a Christmas video and our Top 10 Releases playlist in the Christmas Gooch... I also recorded a Top of 2018 episode for Less Talk, More Records with my main bae Judy. Listen to it here.
Apart from a super cool house-show on January 15th and Satanic Surfers on February 1st… there's not much gigging planned in January. No rest for the wicked though, as the whole month is packed with work and hanging out with friends.

Shit Present - Anxious Type. It’s time we get rid of the notion that “Joelle only listens to skatepunk”. Catchy, danceable punk rock and extremely relatable emo lyrics.
